Janus Road Club Wills Wheels

Introduction

The Janus Road Club is a cycling club based around the Stockport area of Greater Manchester, England, offering both social and competitive activities for it's members.

Club Runs

These take place every Sunday departing from outside the Rising Sun Hotel, Hazel Grove, Stockport at about 10.00am. Depending on the time of year, the runs cover between 30 and 60 miles usually with a short lunch stop and returning normally by mid afternoon.
When a race is taking place within a reasonable distance the club run will generally head out to that race.

Meetings

The club meets once a month to conduct club business and have a friendly get together. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at the Navigation Hotel, Hyde Road, Woodley, Stockport starting at 8.00pm.

Social

On the social side the main event of the year is the Annual Dinner Dance and Prize Presentation which takes place at the Alma Lodge, Stockport on 2nd February 2008.

History

The Janus was formed in 1953. Following repeated attempts by the founder members whilst in another club to have ladies accepted into that club, and in spite of the passing of a resolution to allow this, opposition was such that the proposal was reversed. The 9 founder members of the Janus eventually felt that their only way forward was to resign en masse and start a club of their own.

Membership

Current membership is £12.00 for Senior Racing Members
(over 18), £4.00 for juniors and £5.00 social members.
